Sapphire has a long and storied history as a precious stone, and its name reaches all the way back to the Sanskrit word shanipriya, meaning “precious to Saturn”. Planets aren’t the only ones who hold sapphires near and dear to their hearts, though. Everyone born in September takes this lovely jewel as her birthstone, and although they come in lots of colors, the classic vivid blue is still most people’s favorite.
